Good morning Ladies and Gentleman, I am Miechael Hsu, the mayor of Sanyi Township. Today, it is an honor for me to introduce Sanyi, a beautiful township in Taiwan.
Sanyi is a rural township located in Miaoli County, the northwestern of Taiwan.
This town has a total area about 69square kilometers with a population of 17,000 people.
Sanyi also be known as “Foggy Town”.The wood sculpture industry developed. Over 80% of local families were employed in wood sculpturing at one point.At the end of the 20th century, Sanyi began developing tourist industry. There are many famous attractions, for example, Sheng-hsing station, Longteng Bridge, Liyutan Reservoir, Shuimei Street.
Sanyi is famous for wood carving. People like to use Camphor trees, the wood with special fragrant, as material. There is only one wood sculpture museum in Taiwan, and this museum is in Sanyi. Sanyi earn the name of "Woodcarving Kingdom of Taiwan"。
81.3% of the residents are Hakka people, and rice is the staple food of our diet.
In May, "Sanyi Fire Dragon From The Cloud" ,one of the Top 12 Hakka Festival, is held every year. This dragon is made of straw, and the tradition has existed for more than thousand years.
In September, "Sanyi international Wood Carving Art Festival", which is the Top 10 Festival in Taiwan, are held every year.
